As part of a recent restructuring of its distribution strategy, Sony has appointed Midwich as its UK distributor. Midwich will be stock the full range of commercial and consumer projectors and will be expected to create demand in stronghold sectors such as SME, corporate and education. Darren Lewitt, divisional director at Midwich says: "Looking from the outside it's been quite obvious to us that Sony needed a proactive distributor to kick start its business within a number of channels. Unfortunately, there are not many focused AV distributors around who can service both AV and IT resellers." Midwich says the move could lead to it becoming the UK's largest projector distributor at some point in 2005. It now stocks six out of the seven major Japanese projector brands.

UK AV distributor Steljes has launched a new nationwide trade-only installation service as part of its ComfortZone package for resellers. It says the service is designed to offer additional installation resources for specialist AV resellers, whilst supporting IT and office equipment resellers that want to up-sell AV installations, but may not have the resource and level of expertise in-house to effectively support it. The installation service comprises five options for education and business applications. These include the installation of ceiling mounted projectors, wall and ceiling mounted flat panel displays, wall mounted SMART Boards or projection screens, SMART Board’s 3000i & 2000i rear-projection cabinets and Sympodium - SMART’s interactive lectern. In addition to installation and project management, the service offers site surveys, delivery of equipment to the site, all installation bracketry, a comprehensive range of peripherals, and SMART Board training and product familiarisation for up to four users.
